PURGATORIAL
A downloadable game for Windows
Yo! We just released a new update, adding in a bunch of stuff that you guys wanted, and more! Check out the devlog!
(Jam version still available)
Foreword(s)
This is a short game that me and a friend made for the Inbound Shovel Game Jam. It is actually the first time either of us have ever uploaded a game, and I think we did pretty well.
The theme of the game jam was "Just Get Started", so our idea was that you played through the tutorial, and you get stuck in an endless loop trying to escape the tutorial as the main antagonist figured out how to manipulate the game's save file. The enemies from later stages in the game get confused as to why you are taking so long and come to investigate.
Can you escape the tutorial and "just get started" with playing the actual game?

Our story, thus far...
You are the Mopheaded Robot - a heroic knight, feared throughout the land of Vinsteria by evil-doing scum. Namely, your arch-nemesis: the Broomheaded "Broomheed" Robot. Broomheed, fortified in the Vile Fortress, has enlisted the help of an evil sorceress, Liarheld, to manipulate the very fabric of the world around you, forever trapping you in the boring, training dungeon of Hodrick Hall, as the impatient monsters from Herdheckle Forest, Tagahni Desert, and the Enfickeral Caverns attempt to smite you where you stand.
Credits
Fox - The gameplay, code, music, and the 2 drublet + slash sprites.
Moon - The logo, sprites, animation*, and the concept art.

*Moon here, it was my first time doing proper sprite animations, and a few of them are a little janky. Sorry about that!

Just extract the files from the zip and then run the executable.
Your anti virus will probably flag it, but it is fine.*
*If you are that worried you can also run it in the itch.io sandbox thingy. But I don't even know where to start with making a virus so I wouldn't be worried!**
**Hey, Moon here, again. That's totally not a suspicious thing to say. Not at allllll.

This goes so hard
thanks man!
Ah rogue-like game, nice
Game was awesome! loved the idea and the story. I wish dying sent you back to the start of the stage instead of the start of the game, but thats mostly beacuse I have a massive skill issue. Loved the final boss.
oh wow you actually beat it? congrats! :D
oh no I used god mode because it was taking a long time but I still gave the game a chance to see what it had
This game is massive! The combat gameplay feel and feedback is solid, enemy pushback, particles and damage animation are nice and the enemy pathfinding is on point. I felt like I was starving for health many times since the levels are so big and it's easy to get greedy for xp, but still really cool.
i actually was against adding healing for that exact reason, the more xp you go for the more likely it is that you take a bunch of damage. but of course if you dont get enough xp you deal pitiful damage in the later stages.
I haven’t played this game yet, but it seems really similar to my idea. only problem is that it’s better.
im sure it isn't!
